Halifax Travel Guide

Halifax City

Halifax, set on a steep and spatulate promontory beside one of the world´s finest harbours, has become the focal point of the Maritimes, the region´s financial, educational and transportation centre, whose metropolitan population of over 300,000 makes it three times the size of its nearest rival, New Brunswick´s Saint John.

Halifax has been a significant port city ever since its founding in 1749. Halifax of course is most widely known for its busy harbour that hosts ships from all over the world. The waterfront continues to be a hot spot, boasting some of the city's most stimulating entertainment and most fascinating historical landmarks. Stroll the boardwalks and see ships from around the world, watch fishermen at their timeless tasks or sail or kayak among the many islands of the beautiful bays.

Halifax is the hub for international flights, Casinos, Festivals, Arts and anything and everything regarding naval history and activities.

For a best view of the city one must go up to the Citadel. The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada, in the summer months, has parading soldiers in period costumes.
