Best of WinnipegPrairie Theatre Exchange Established in l973 as a theatre school and alternative theatre, Prairie Theatre Exchange today is a centre of innovative theatre and drama education. PTE offers professional productions for adults and children, a Theatre School and an extensive Outreach Program. Winnipeg Jewish Theatre The Winnipeg Jewish Theatre prides itself on keeping Jewish culture alive and well in Winnipeg. The theatre’s mandate is to present theatre of high artistic quality; to cultivate the creation of new Canadian Jewish plays; to provide education in the theatre arts; and to promote a better understanding of Jewish culture. Winnipeg Railway Museum Dedicated to the history and development of the railway in western Canada, the Winnipeg Railway Museum collection features the “Countess of Dufferin”, the first locomotive on the Canadian prairies, plus a variety of vintage railcars, cabooses, a Jordan spreader from 1911, technical displays and a gift shop. Winnipeg Fire Service Museum In a restored 1904 firehouse at 56 Maple Street the Winnipeg Fire Service Museum illustrates the history of the Winnipeg Fire Department since its formation in 1882. On display are photographs and artifacts as well as vintage firefighting apparatus. Transcona Historical Museum The Transcona Historical Museum has as its vision to maintain and promote the history, stories and community spirit of Transcona. Exhibits explore the origins of Transcona and the accomplishments of its citizens. Visitors can learn about our railway heritage, veterans, community builders and The Greatest Transconians. Prairie Dog Central A museum on wheels chugging down the tracks! An 1882 steam locomotive and five turn-of-the-century wooden coaches comprise this grand old train. You may have seen the Prairie Dog Central in movies. Fully restored and operated by the Vintage Locomotive Society, the train offers a 2 ½ hour round trip to Warren, MB and back on weekends during the summer. The Manitoba Museum Explore your unlimited imagination at The Manitoba Museum. Embark on a journey through time and space as you travel across Manitoba from north to south in the magnificent Museum Galleries, blast off into space at the Planetarium and have fun experimenting in the Science Gallery all under one roof in the heart of the city. Le Cercle Moliere Le Cercle Moliere, Canada’s oldest active theatre company, produces plays en francais. Four plays are produced annually from October through April in the Theatre de la Chapelle, an intimate café-style venue unique to Winnipeg at 825 rue St. Joseph. Manitoba Theatre Centre Each year the Manitoba Theatre Centre produces more than 300 days of entertainment, with 10 plays on the Mainstage and the Warehouse, a Regional Tour, the summer Fringe and mid-winter Playwright Festivals. |
